Dear Mark and Sadie
We had a lovely holiday at Windyhill. The cottage was comfortable and of course the views are amazing.
We were able to relax and recharge our batteries.
We had good weather, which was a bonus. We have all come home sunburnt!
We had a particularly nice day at Garvie Bay where our son and daughter snorkelled (in wet suits) and our son caught three big Pollock with a speargun which we ate for supper. We were the only people on the beach!
Another nice day was spent on the cliffs at Reiff where our son and daughter climbed the cliffs, with all the right gear of course, ropes etc!
On other days we also had a cycle ride , walked the dogs on Achnahaird beach and fished from Badentarbet pier where we caught mackerel for lunch.
We drove up to Ichnadamph to walk to the Bone Caves. This a lovely walk up a glen to the caves which were on the side of the hill and well worth the effort to get there.
We have come to this area most years since our children were little. Now they are grown up, (22 and 24 years) they still want to come on our family holiday. There is so much to do in an area that is unspoilt and so beautiful.
Thankyou
Phil, Ruth, Ross and Sarah Kirton

Mark,

We had a very enjoyable visit. Primarily we were after a location where we could base ourselves for some sea-kayaking, rock climbing, walking, cycling and eating, Windyhill was ideal.

The Summer Isles is a great sea kayaking destination well known for it’s sheltered waters almost free of tidal streams. Sea Kayaking is growing rapidly in popularity and could be another potential market for you. Old Dornie is a great launching site. Reiff is a well known rock climbing area with routes to suit all grades.

Dear Mark and Sadie,

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Windyhill in one of the wettest and windiest weeks in May! The weather did not make the slightest dint in our enjoyment, in fact in some ways being in the cottage in such conditions almost enhanced it. We looked out on the storm in all it’s glory and loved seeing the fresh snow on the far mountains that we had visited the day before. The cottage was beautifully equipped, having let our own cottage we know the amount of work/money it takes to set up a good cottage like this so that it feels like home. The design is superb and the view just breathtaking. The comfort was also very high. We particularly appreciated the Sealy mattress in our bedroom, so often when you go to holiday accommodation this is something that is skimped on, as someone with a bad back who sleeps on a Sealy I heaved a sigh of relief when I sat on the bed. The sofas and chairs were also very comfortable. John sorted out a problem with the water very efficiently and pleasantly.

It was so rough that we could not get out to the Summer Isles so we may well be back and Tony’s hip will be fit for the proper walking we were unable to do this time.

Many thanks,
Fiona

P.S. We also loved the eclectic choice of music and tried almost everything!!

Hi Mark,

We had a great stay, thanks, much helped by the endless sunshine (lucky!) and excellent kayaking around the Summer Isles and Lochinver, which was our reason for going to the area.

Windyhill proved to be just what we were looking forward to. The big space upstairs is great for a holiday. We enjoyed being able to walk to the pub and Reiff easily.

The WiFi was a useful bonus to get weather forecasts from the Met Office.

Steve

Hello Mark,

We had a wonderful holiday in Scotland once again this year, and we love Windyhill!
The house is very comfortable, clean and welcoming, perfect for us to relax and unwind.Thank you for sharing it with us, we will return.
Its a 650 mile drive one way from South Wales but worth every bit of that effort!
Best wishes from Julie and Francis

Hello Mark and Sadie
Words cannot describe my disappointment and saddness as the way I felt the day we drove up the single track road for the very last time, it actually brought tears to my eyes.
We have had such a fantastic and amazing stay at Windyhill, the sight of Porpoise in the bay at dawn and dusk just fantastic, Stack Polly we conquered the entire thing and the views from the top just blew us away (quite literally), the food at the pub 5 * the locals very freindly even the pubs dog came with us to Polbain stores one morning!!!!! much to my sons amusement!!!.
We managed to fit in more activities than we anticipated, and didnt even mind the drives to and from civilisation because the scenery was just immense, we even saw a real life mole run accross the road on are way sea kayaking one day Mark my hubby held up the traffic while he ran up the mountain to photograph it as it was such a rare sight for us!!!
Our days filled with exploring and our evenings spent playing Scrabble and Monoply ( i hasten to add that I wipped both boys every time!!!!!!) seated in that glorious window view with the setting sun over the Islands.
The weather (although I packed for the worst of) was just beautiful all but one day!!!
You really have set the bench mark astronomically high with this location its going to take some beating!
Thank you so much for making this the holiday stay of a life time, we would love to come back next year.
Sally, Mark and Liam.

The week we had at Windyhill was great.  All the snow and ice had cleared for us arriving which made travelling much easier.  The cottage itself was fantastic and having a big enclosed garden was great for the dogs – the lab loved running about exploring all the different trees and bushes.  There were also great beaches nearby for them to get a good run.  The locals were very friendly and helpful and there was loads to do in the area.  Would gladly return again to explore what we missed.

Thanks

Jean Philp

Windyhill holiday CottageHi,
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Windhill. Possibly the nicest cottage we have stayed in. It ticked all of the boxes. The weather was very mild but we still used the stove a couple of times when rain kept us in. Stac Pollaidh was conquered (not to the very top though). The direct road route to Lochinver was a bit nerve-racking but worthwhile.
We explored, walked, ran, bird-watched, took photos of the spectacular landscape and generally chilled-out. I watched Great Northern Divers from the cottage with my own telescope, along with a couple of Harbour Seals.
Many thanks. We would love to return.
We believe that you are having another cottage built. Can you let us have any details please?
I am attaching some photos.
Regards,
Steve and Jackie Edwards

Mark
we had the most amazing time at Windy Hill – The house is stunning and the view is unreal- We found out that to stay in the cabins in front of the cottage was almost the same price as Windy hill so either they are over priced or windy hill is underpriced !  We where out and about most days so I’d be more than happy to send you some pictures.  We had the room with the en-suite and I really couldn’t fault it.   For your information the White House cottage at Pitlochary was a good half way stop over if a group of people are travelling with dogs in tow – It’s next to a really nice pub- the accomodation is fairly basic but it serves a purpose and was reasonably priced-
We had a great meal at the Farran bar – It might be a good idea to inform people that they should book in advance if they want seafood out of season so that Catrina can get it in from the local fishermen
Will be in touch with pictures
Kind regards

Cassie
