Glenlivet Area

Glenlivet is one of Scotland's secret glens, located between the Ladder and Cromdale Hills in the Cairngorms National Park. The two rivers of Livet and Avon are part of the 58,000 acre of Glenlivet Estate, part of the Crown Estate.

This area of the Highlands has fantastic walks, cycle, horse riding and skiing areas, and because Glenlivet is a Crown Estate these are well sign posted and maintained. Here you will find solitude and extensive wide open spaces.

Glenlivet has nowhere lower than 600 feet, because it is not overrun by tourism allot of traditional industries still exist like Whisky Distilleries, Farming and Forestry. Also the Livet and Avon (pronounced "a'an") offer fantastic fishing with weekly permits starting from £25 on the Community owned stretches of river.

The rolling hills change colour dramatically in late Summer and Autumn when the purple flowers burst into life. Wildlife lovers won't be disappointed with Glenlivet as there is an abundance of animals roaming and birds living in the area. Crossbills, siskins, redpolls, goldcrest and long-tailed tits can be seen in many of the woodland areas, where you may also spot the occasional red squirrel jumping from tree to tree.

Areas of Juniper scrub, heather heath and adjoining woodlands provide good habitat for black grouse and short eared owls, white bogs, blanket peat and rough grassland allow many waders, including snipe, redshank, curlew and golden plover to breed. Mountain hares are frequently seen on the hills particularly in the spring when they are still wearing their winter coat, while red and roe deer browse over both the high and low ground. The are many more types of wildlife to discover in this beautiful glen.

There also loads to do for the family in and around Glenlivet (Glenlivet Whisky) and Speyside. Click here for other activities in the area.
