Delighted by the house & views & by hour cosy & comfortable we were in gala – loca wind & rain! Really enjoyed Hydroponicum, Smokery & village stores at Polbair. Soup & bread & mixed leaves from Hydroponicum excellent, even if you already know everything you want to about hydroponically – grown stuff – If (like us) you know nothing, the experience is even more interesting. We think the smoked fish from the smokey may even rival Craser’s (that’s saying something). The village store at Polbair manages to cram into a tiny space all sorts of interesting face. We had a pleasant lunch at the mountain equipment shop at Ullapool and enjoyed a little brouse in the bookshop. The garden at Leckmelm is certainly worth a visit if you’re interested in wonderful fees (3 miles S. of Ullapool).
Recommended walks would certainly includes the 1st one in the local booklet, especially on a good day, when the views are spectacular. And the journey over to Lochinver is stunning – stop at Inver-kirkaig for the waterfall walk (the book-shop & cafe). We intend to dry the Rieff walk tomorrow, which seems to get a good press, & we’ve booked a table in the Bar at the Summer Isles Hotel for our Final treat!
Hope you enjoy it all as much as we have.
(Rieff walk delightful – fantastic coastline & rock formations. Really excellent meal in the Bar of the Summer Isles Hotel C. F you’re rich & famous you’ll probably go for the hotel itself, but the Bar is very reasonable – if the skare is on the menu go for it, the spiced apple cake is exquisite!)
