Among the many things to do in Scotland this summer, is a selection of festivals held across the country. Here’s a few of the main ones coming up – so find one you like the sound of and see if it can’t be combined with your self-catering holiday in Scotland.
West End Festival
This is Glasgow’s biggest community festival, with more than 400 events held in dozens of venues, and involving some 2,500 performers. It takes place this year between 5th and 28th June.
Royal Highland Show
Held in 2015 from 18th to 21st June, this is when the countryside comes to Edinburgh to give an insight into the Scottish farming and food industries.
Xpo North Festival
This is a free festival for the creative industries based in Inverness and held on 10th and 11th June.
St Magnus Festival
Enjoy this prestigious musical event between 19th and 24th June against the stunning midsummer backdrop of Orkney and soak up the unique blend of community participation and world-class performances.
Edinburgh International Film Festival
Established nearly 70 years ago, this event enjoys a worldwide reputation for promoting the best in global cinema.
Glasgow Comic Con
This takes place on 4th and 5th July at the CCA, Glasgow. Last year, it broke the venue’s record for attendance at a single event.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival
The Festival Fringe in Edinburgh is the world’s biggest arts festival, and takes place every August in the capital of Scotland. In 2015, it is held between 7th and 31st August.
Edinburgh International Festival
One of the most beautiful cities in the world is transformed every August during three thrilling weeks of performances from across the world of the arts. In 2015, you can enjoy this festival on the same dates as the Fringe.
The Edinburgh Mela
Held towards the end of the other festivals in town on 29th and 30th August, this is Scotland’s leading multi-cultural festival of performing arts.
With the Scottish International Storytelling Festival and Edinburgh Art Fair in town in the autumn, make 2015 the year you take in one of these events as part of a superb self-catering holiday north of the border.
