Reviews from other guests

Well equipped, well laid out sensational views and location.

Stayed in its next door neighbour Stac Polly identical lodge in Achiltibuie, beautiful setting for a relaxing break, plenty to explore round about walking or cycling or excursions in the car. The lodge is well equipped , with great views over the Summer Isles so if the weather is bad you can just relax and enjoy the lodge.

Fabulous

The house is amazing, everything you could wish for & a fabulous view. Could’ve stayed here for ever. Spotlessly clean & most comfy bed.

Well be back!!!

Locholly Lodge is a modern and bright house where we instantly felt at home. We were there in the middle of winter and lit the log burner once just because we thought we should because it would be a nice thing to do, certainly not because we were cold. The house was heated beautifully and we were really comfortable thanks to the furniture and mattresses which had been provided. Locholly is set in an incredible location, with the most stunning scenery all around. There are so many options of other incredible places to see and walks to do with the dogs, that a week disappears all too quickly. There is only one answer, which is that we will return in the not too distant future - and that is from someone who lives over 700 miles away.

Luxury in The Highlands

We visited locholly in November and had a perfect stay. After a long drive, we arrived on the road to Achiltibuie to the most beautiful sunset and dramatic scenery, we knew we in for a special trip.nnArriving at the lodge, it was lovely and warm, we went straight upstairs to catch the end of the sunset. We needed have been in such a hurry as we enjoyed a different sunset every night of the week, each just as beautiful as the next.nnThe lodge has everything you can think of. We brought lots of things with us that we didnt actually need as the lodge already had them e.g. Washing up liquid, kitchen roll, bin bags etc. We left our supplies for the next guests.nnThe surrounding area is incredible. Being November, most of the cafés, restaurants etc are closed so we headed up the coast with our packed lunches.nnSome of our favourite places were Achmelvich beach (we had it to ourselves!), Balnakeil Bay in Durness and The Pie Shop at Lochinver.nnWe cant wait to come back in a different season to see the changing landscape.nnPS. Watch out for the stags and sheep! ❤️n

Stunning views though some maintenance is needed

We’d been aware of Locholly Lodge and Stac Polly Lodge for some time. We wanted to book Stac Polly Lodge because it sits slightly further back and has better views of the Sumer Isles but when we booked six months ahead it was fully booked for the period we wanted. Locholly Lodge was also heavily booked and there was only one week that it was free. So make sure you book early.nBooking was easy: all done online. Emails were answered quickly.nWe weren’t sure how extensive/cheap Achiltibuie stores were, so we’d got non-perishable groceries from Tesco on our way up north. When we arrived we decided we’d have a BBQ that night so went to Achiltibuie stores. We shouldn’t have bothered with Tesco because we could get almost everything from Achiltibuie Stores for supermarket prices. The only line they didn’t stock was freshly baked bakery. They had bread: normal plastic-bagged loafs. The only problems with Achiltibuie Stores is it is closed on a Sunday. Drive 3 miles to Altandhu camp site: the stores were open till 10 pm 7 days a week when we were there. It has a smaller range than Achiltibuie Stores but got most things to tie you over.nnLocholly Lodge BBQ is charcoal. We’d have expected gas for a property in this price bracket. The BBQ was in the garage with a note saying it should be left cleaned. It had been emptied of ash, but it was definitely not clean as the racks were covered in grease etc. Also, the lid hinge was broken on one side. There were no BBQ utensils. We texted Mia who looks after the property. We didn’t get a reply. In the property was a note from Wez who looks after maintenance. We texted him. He said he’d send his brother-in-law round the next day. The brother-in-law turned up about three days later. We did see Mia the following day. Turns out Wez was in hospital. Wish we’d known, we wouldn’t have bothered him. Mia located a new set of BBQ utensils in the shed next door.nnThe property is as stunning as you see in the photos. But a bit of maintenance is required. In the welcome pack was a handwritten note from Wez saying some of the bulbs had blown and he hasn’t been able to figure out how to replace them. The note was stained so obviously written some time ago. There are other signs that maintenance is lacking. There is no key for the main patio doors downstairs. They are secured with side bolts but not locked tightly together so rain can get in during high windows. As a result, the laminate around the door is badly weathered and has peeled. The kitchen windowsill has swollen in places. Some window handles don’t close properly. The utility door is rotting with parts of the window frame having fallen off. I discussed these with Mia. She was aware of these and had informed the owners some considerable time ago.nnWe were there mid-July when it is light until almost midnight. At that time of year, the sun sets towards the north so the sunsets are not visible from the lodges. One evening we saw a pod of dolphins in the bay. We also saw red deer in the fields as well as numerous birds.nnThere is information on several walks. One walk that isn’t included is the nearest which is from the Lodge itself and goes around the headland in front of the Lodge. Turn left at the top of the drive, walk 150 yards down the road turn towards the Piping College. Walk along the track that passes the college. After a few hundred yards this becomes a gravel footpath then after a further few hundred yards a grass footpath. You follow a series of posts round the headland that will bring you passed the brochs then back to the road and the Lodges. Total distance 2.25 miles. Something else you must do is the drive on the single-track minor road to Lochinver: it is stunning.nnParties of adults or families with grown up children will find the beds a bit restrictive. We’re all 6’ tall and the bunks and twin beds had footboards which was a problem. Both double rooms were excellent. The main one upstairs is huge as is the en suite. In fact, it is larger than the main bathroom downstairs.nnThough we’d preferred Stac Polly Lodge when we booked, there’s a scruffy cottage and static caravan next to Stac Polly Lodge that you don’t notice from Locholly Lodge. Stac Polly Lodge is set slightly further back so has more open views and better views of the Summer Isles. It is also slightly more exposed so gets more wind. The hot tub in particular is more sheltered at Locholly Lodge. This means it is warmer when it is windy. It also means it gets more midges. We only had one night when we were bothered by midges.nnWe had a very relaxing time at Locholly Lodge and recommend it to anyone but also ask the owners to get on with a bit of maintenance and do some upgrades such as a gas BBQ.

What a fantastic place!

This was a special family gathering for 8 of us plus 3 small dogs (we had to pay for them but we’ll worth it). nThe Lodge was stunning. You have to be there to appreciate the views from the lounge. Very modern building and having everything you could possibly need whilst spending a holiday there. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub and the sauna. The views were stunning. A herd of deer passed by every morning and evening. Great for walking. A single track road leads to the Lodge with many passing places and everyone was considerate. There is a very well stocked local shop, a super cafe and a local hotel which is open to visitors. nVery worthy of its 5 stars.
